Editor’s Note: The following article was inadvertently omitted from the last issue of Carolina Communiqué. We apologize for the omission.
For the second year in a row, STC Carolina received a Chapter Achievement Award of Excellence at the annual STC conference in Baltimore!
The Chapter Achievement award recognizes
a chapter’s outstanding accomplishments in achieving the Society’s goals through a wide range of programs and activities. The society bestows one of three grades of awards: Award of Distinction (given to only one chapter per region), Award of Excellence, and Award of Merit.
Our chapter also received an Award of Merit in Specific Event or Service Publicity (Category 3) of the Public Relations Competition. For our award, the professional public relations judges’ comments included “great test evaluation and quality results and excellent survey too.” Kudos to Catherine Donleycott, Katie Warvel, and members of the STC Carolina Public Relations team!
Although our chapter’s newsletter did not win an award in the STC Newsletter Competition, it garnered positive judge comments such as these:
Congratulations and thanks to all members for making our chapter excellent year after year!

- The inscription on our plaque reads as follows
- For consistently providing a wide variety of excellent and innovative services to your members, to STC, and to the community at large.

Although our chapter’s newsletter did not win an award in the STC Newsletter Competition, it garnered positive judge comments such as these:
- Excellent job of editing; lots of diversity in the articles
- Nice blend of technical material (Web design for small companies) and less technical material (Is technical communication like riding a bicycle?)
- The Dear Viv column was absolutely brilliant! An excellent look at the lighter side of technical communication!
- Layout is inviting to the reader; nice graphics and great pictures
- Overall use of colors is excellent — the cover design as well as inside the issue.
Congratulations and thanks to all members for making our chapter excellent year after year!
