The STC Carolina Chapter has once again won a Community of Excellence award from the Society. The citation reads,
“For your embrace of mobility and social networking, your continued innovation in competition judging, and your strategic decision to appoint directors-at-large to effectively manage volunteers”
In the 2012 Q4 newsletter, I reviewed the programs that the chapter brought you in 2012. Recordings are available for many of them, so look for any you may have missed.

If you value the chapter’s programs, please help us spread the word to your colleagues. The Society offers the following suggestions:
- Let colleagues in the workplace know how STC has contributed to your professional growth through knowledge sharing and networking opportunities.
- Bring coworkers, managers, colleagues, and friends interested in technical communication to STC events.
- Write a testimonial about what STC has done for you career, knowledge, and networking. The chapter can then share the testimonial in the newsletter or on the website.
- Participate in a technical communication-related event at a local college, university, or high school (such as staffing a booth or speaking at a conference, career day, or science fair). The chapter can provide STC membership materials for you to distribute at the event.
You can also support the chapter in other ways.
- Nominate a qualified chapter member for Society-level honors or awards:
- Speak at a meeting, recommend a speaker, or suggest a topic
- Submit an article to the chapter newsletter
- Volunteer for the chapter programs committee or membership committee
- Serve as a member of the administrative council. Elections are coming up! Develop your leadership skills, expand your network, and stay on top of the technical communication field.
