As your elected president for the 2015 - 2016 year, I am excited and honored to be leading our award-winning community. In the hands of Immediate Past President Robert Perry and Past President Sheila Loring, the Carolina Chapter achieved Community of the Year and Community of Distinction by delivering excellent programming and value to our members. Without strong leadership and dedicated volunteers, our Chapter would not be the exemplary of the Society.

I first became in involved with the Carolina Chapter in 2007 as technical communication graduate student and working as a writing co-op at GlaxoSmithKline. My co-op mentor (and now friend) brought me to the annual picnic, and I soon started copy editing and writing for the Carolina Communique. I later became the managing editor.

After graduating from ECU, I was hired by another department at GlaxoSmithKline, and later became the lone writer for a manufacturing company, wearing writing, training, web development, and quality hats. I am now the technical editor and DITA content manager for five authors at Extreme Networks.

Since I was introduced to the Chapter early in my career, I've attended some excellent programming, held a few positions, and attended the Summit three times. But the best part of membership is learning from others and building a network of peers. Regardless of the tools we use or the technology we document, we are a strong group of writers, editors, information architects, and others who make technology more useful. Sharing our knowledge with one another makes us better communicators, strengthens our Chapter, and builds a better Society.

As president, my goal is to build on the success we've had, and bring more value to our members. This starts with Vision Day, which is on July 16th this year. This is the time where we celebrate our successes, learn from our mistakes, and plan another excellent year of programming and events. It's all hands on deck, as our Chapter would not be celebrating without our amazing members. If you have ideas or want to get involved, Vision Day is a great place to start.

I hope you'll join us for another fantastic year!
