Out of its misery?

Whenever I read that billionaire investor Kirk Kerkorian is buying a stake in an American automobile company ("Kerkorian bids $4.5 billion for Chrysler," April 6), I think that these sick companies might actually need the services of suicide doctor Jack Kevorkian.

Are they getting the names confused?

O Humid Night

No one knows what time of year Christ was born. The Catholic Church may have scheduled Christmas to co-opt the pagan winter solstice holiday, Saturnalia.

However, every year we hear of travel nightmares for thousands at Christmastime due to bad weather. This year it's a blizzard in Denver and persistent fog in London. I think we need to reschedule Christmas to a time of year when the weather is better. Not much going on in August, right?

Cut the talk, and funds

February 15, 2007
Edition: Final
Section: Editorial/Opinion

Index Terms: Letter

Can we fire Congress for poor time-management skills? The House is now spending a lot of time debating a non-binding resolution disapproving of the president's plan to send more troops to Iraq. Why bother? The resolution will have absolutely no effect. What they should be doing is passing actual legislation that cuts off funding for the war.

The Democrats were not elected so they could "send a message" to the president. The Democrats were elected to stop the president. It is my opinion that the Democrats either lack the guts to do what is necessary to stop the war, or they actually want to prolong the war in order to run against it in 2008. I really fear that it is the latter.
