Carolina chapter luau...someday
By Christina Eftekhar

On a bright, breezy and beautiful day in the middle of September, over twenty STC members and nonmembers alike joined for good food, fun, and of course, prizes. This was the second luau I have attended since getting involved with STC, and I enjoy the light-hearted games and dressing like a Hawaiian tourist.

This year Andrea had us write our Hawaiian names on our name tags, and the red paper covering the picnic tables scattered with real sea shells and paper fans added to the yearning for tropical paradise. Flowery leis and simple strings of greenery hung around our necks, which bounced as we cheered for the teams competing in coconut bowling. The swift breezes hinting of fall danced through the shelter until the last line of daylight burned over the lake and the remaining few said their goodbyes.

Even though a few people were beneficiaries of the raffle, everyone left with a sense of fellowship and an appreciation for the distraction from everyday stresses.

The membership luaus are a chance for members to reconnect in a fun environment and for potential members to see the "other" side of STC Carolina in a relaxing environment. We hope you'll join us next year!
